Publix announces expansion of east Greensboro distribution center
As site work continues on its 350-acre campus in east Greensboro, Publix has already announced an expansion to its 1.8 million-square-foot perishable foods distribution center in East Greensboro.
The employee-owned company based in Lakeland, Florida, broke ground on its $400 million first phase in February at the site it acquired off U.S. 70 east of Interstate 840. Last week, the company announced it will add more than 1.2 million square feet of dry grocery warehouse space to the project.
Publix will create approximately 1,000 jobs paying an average annual salary of $44,000 in its initial phase. The company received upwards of $50 million in state and local incentives, including tax incentives and grants. The company did not seek additional incentives for the expansion nor has it disclosed additional investment or job creation figures.
