UPS will undertake a significant expansion to its North Carolina presence with the addition of 592 jobs in Guilford and Alamance counties, otherwise known as the Carolina Core. The the multinational package delivery and supply-chain management company plans to invest a total of $316.4 million at two sites over the coming four years.

“UPS appreciates the State of North Carolina for their support of these projects that will help UPS move our world forward by delivering what matters,” said Derrick Johnson, president of UPS’s South Atlantic District. “The new and expanded facilities will increase the speed and flexibility for connecting businesses and customers throughout the state, across the country and around the globe. This is an exciting time to be part of North Carolina’s economic growth and we look forward to bringing additional jobs that pay well to the Greensboro area as a partner in the community.”

Nestlé Purina PetCare is investing $450 million to transform a former brewery in the Carolina Core into an innovative, technically advanced pet food manufacturing facility.

The 1.3 million-square-foot facility in Eden, North Carolina will employ more than 300 people.

The company, which also considered sites in Ohio and Kentucky, chose the Carolina Core for its strong workforce and available real estate.

A $50 million incentive package has been approved, comprised of $24.6 million in state incentives and $24.4 million in local incentives.

Canada-based Prepac Manufacturing Ltd., a North American manufacturer of Ready-to-Assemble furniture will invest $27.1 million to locate its new 260,000 square foot east coast furniture factory in Whitsett, North Carolina. The company plans to create 201 jobs in Guilford County.

“When we started evaluating potential locations for our new east coast factory there were several good options for us to consider” said Jim Mathison, President of Prepac Manufacturing. “Ultimately, we chose North Carolina and specifically Guilford County due to several key factors including; the availability of a highly skilled workforce, easy access to major markets, and compelling State and County resources to help ensure that this project is successful given these uncertain times. We look forward to expanding our North American Manufacturing base in Guilford County and are excited to be moving forward with this project.”
