Publix announces expansion of east Greensboro distribution center

As site work continues on its 350-acre campus in east Greensboro, Publix has already announced an expansion to its 1.8 million-square-foot perishable foods distribution center in East Greensboro.

The employee-owned company based in Lakeland, Florida, broke ground on its $400 million first phase in February at the site it acquired off U.S. 70 east of Interstate 840. Last week, the company announced it will add more than 1.2 million square feet of dry grocery warehouse space to the project.

Publix will create approximately 1,000 jobs paying an average annual salary of $44,000 in its initial phase. The company received upwards of $50 million in state and local incentives, including tax incentives and grants. The company did not seek additional incentives for the expansion nor has it disclosed additional investment or job creation figures.

UPS To Invest More Than $316M In North Carolina; Add 592 Jobs

UPS will undertake a significant expansion to its North Carolina presence with the addition of 592 jobs in Guilford and Alamance counties, otherwise known as the Carolina Core. The the multinational package delivery and supply-chain management company plans to invest a total of $316.4 million at two sites over the coming four years.

Purina Adding 300 Jobs in Carolina Core

Nestlé Purina PetCare is investing $450 million to transform a former brewery in the Carolina Core into an innovative, technically advanced pet food manufacturing facility.

The 1.3 million-square-foot facility in Eden, North Carolina will employ more than 300 people.

The company, which also considered sites in Ohio and Kentucky, chose the Carolina Core for its strong workforce and available real estate.

$50 million incentive package has been approved, comprised of $24.6 million in state incentives and $24.4 million in local incentives.
