Biopharma company bringing 325 jobs to Sanford, $60,000 average salary

Abzena, a life-sciences group headquartered in San Diego, California with other sites across the US and Europe, will open a new facility in Lee County, Governor Roy Cooper announced Tuesday.

The company plans to locate in the 117,000 square foot Shell Building #2 in Central Carolina Enterprise Park and will create 325 jobs at an average annual salary of more than $60,000.

The company will be investing $213M in Sanford.

Abzena, a contract manufacturer, collaborates with companies and academic groups all over the world, including most of the top 20 biopharmaceutical companies. Multiple antibodies, which have been created using Abzena’s technologies, are currently being progressed through clinical development by their licensees.

FedEx and Haeco adding jobs at the Piedmont Triad International Airport

Two major Piedmont Triad International Airport tenants are adding employees. HAECO Americas, one of the world’s largest providers of aircraft maintenance and repair services, plans to hire an additional 150 to 200 people to fill a need for aircraft mechanics.
“The FedEx Express Mid-Atlantic Hub at PTI has recently added approximately 350 new employees to support an expanded schedule of daytime flights at the hub. The new jobs at FedEx will bring total employment to more than 1,000 workers, and will include part-time, full-time and management positions,” according to Tom Maxwell, managing director at the FedEx Express Mid-Atlantic hub.

Syngenta planning to expand Greensboro headquarters

Global provider of agricultural science and technology Syngenta along with Greensboro and state officials announced Tuesday the Greensboro site plans to expand.

The company plans to expand its location on South Swing Road, a 70-acre facility housing 650 employees, and 100 contractors.

According to Vern Hawkins, president of Syngenta Crop Protection, LLC, the expansion and plans to stay in Greensboro brings $68 million in investment in real property improvements, new furniture, fixtures and equipment to the Triad.

Chatham-Siler City Advanced Manufacturing Site Ready for Occupants

The Chatham-Siler City Advanced Manufacturing (CAM) Site, a 1,802-acre industrial megasite in western Chatham County, is ready for heavy industry companies to move in. The megasite is not completely functional, but everything left to do must follow company commitments to build at CAM.
“Sewer is the biggest thing,” said CAM site owner Tim Booras., adding “the new water pipe main extending down U.S. Hwy. 64 has successfully been run to the site … Sewer right-of-way has been acquired, design has been completed and the sewer line is permitted.” Companies can have running water and functional sewer within 12 months of committing to build at CAM, he said. Almost 200 major companies have considered locations across North Carolina in recent months, including the CAM site.

Hot Shots Distributing Moving to High Point

Hot Shots Distributing, Inc., a distributor of hot sauce and fiery food products to large and small retailers, boutiques, and gift stores, has announced plans to invest $565,000 in a new distribution and manufacturing operation in High Point. Matt Heald, vice president, added, “High Point has an attractive real estate market that is perfectly suited to small-scale distribution and manufacturing. The building we are choosing has ample room for our vertical expansion plans for acquiring more brands and building our own production.” The company also plans to add 21 jobs; the new positions will be senior management, office staff, warehouse staff, and commercial kitchen staff.
