Four of the megasites are located along a future interstate offering large-scale industrial operations and their suppliers unmatched opportunity in America’s Southeast.
Leaders in the Piedmont Triad region collaborated for more than a decade to develop four megasites with 7,200 acres of certified land along future I-685 that would attract large-scale manufacturers. The vision and investment paid off. Today, Toyota, Boom Supersonic, Wolfspeed and VinFast are building major production facilities along the Carolina Core corridor.
While large tracts of land in those megasites have already been purchased, prime parcels within the megasites remain with unparalleled opportunities for suppliers and other manufacturers.
Here’s a snapshot:
PTI Aerospace Center: Located at the Piedmont Triad International Airport with immediate access to I-40 and I-73, this 1,000-acre site is the future home of Boom Supersonic and Marshall Aerospace, and is adjacent to FedEx, Honda Aircraft Company, HAECO Americas and Cessna. The site has 900 acres ready for development in its entirety or in parcels. The property, connected to the airport by a new taxiway bridge, has already received preliminary approval for development by the EPA.
Greensboro-Randolph Megasite: With Toyota now building its new EV battery manufacturing facility at this megasite located minutes from I-40 and I-85, there is currently no land left at this megasite.
Chatham-Siler City Advanced Manufacturing (CAM) Site: At this 1,800-acre megasite, chipmaker Wolfspeed is building a $5 billion manufacturing plant, the world’s largest silicon carbide materials facility. The company was attracted to the site’s central location with access to a workforce of more than 1.4 million people within a 50-mile radius. Approximately 1,400 acres remain available at the megasite.
Triangle Innovation Point: Originally 2,500 acres, this megasite is the future home of VinFast, a Vietnamese manufacturer of electric vehicles and batteries. The site, which has about 450 acres remaining, offers proximity to the state capital, Research Triangle and three Tier 1 research universities.
Person County Mega Park: The fifth megasite in the Carolina Core is the Person County Mega Park, which is a 1,300-acre, North Carolina Certified Site, uniquely served by two electric utilities. The site is ideally suited for industrial partners in need of large water and electricity capacity.
