Food Lion Parent to Invest $860 Million and Create 505 Jobs in Guilford County
Ahold Delhaize USA, the leading grocery retail group and parent company of Food Lion, will invest more than $860 million to build a new distribution center in the Guilford County section of the City of Burlington. Over time, the project will create 505 full-time jobs and support distribution infrastructure for the company’s grocery brands on the East Coast. This investment underscores North Carolina’s growing role as a national hub for logistics, food distribution, and advanced manufacturing.
The planned facility, encompassing more than one million square feet, will be strategically located off Highway 61, offering direct access to major interstates and rail infrastructure. This location positions Ahold Delhaize USA to optimize supply chain efficiency and enhance the experience for Food Lion and its customers. Construction and hiring are expected to ramp up in phases, with the company’s full hiring timeline projected to be completed by December 31, 2033.
Beyond jobs and infrastructure, the campus will showcase proven supply chain automation and sustainability features that improve efficiency and reduce environmental impact. It is designed to move products faster, use less energy, and support the company’s long-term growth.
