John Deere to Expand in Kernersville; Invest $70 Million, Add 150 New Jobs

John Deere, a manufacturer of heavy equipment and machinery, will invest about $70 million to build a new 380,000-square-foot factory in Kernersville, an expansion of its John Deere Kernersville campus. The factory will produce small, 6 to 10 metric ton, excavators and is expected to add about 150 new jobs. Currently, about 600 salaried and production employees work at the Kernersville campus. Construction of the new Deere factory is expected to begin in late 2024.

“Kernersville has been an ideal location for John Deere for more than 35 years,” says Steve Brewer, General Manager, John Deere Kernersville. “We are excited to further invest in our future generation excavator portfolio and grow our engaged team.”

Walmart Adding 600,000 SF, Creating 450 Jobs at Mebane Distribution Center

Walmart plans to build a second distribution center in Mebane, NC and create 450 jobs. The facility will be 599,006 sq ft and will be built in front of, to the west and right of, the existing Walmart distribution center, which is 460,000 sq ft.

The new facility will be a distribution center for dry goods. Walmart is expected to break ground in June 2024. The Mebane Distribution Center opened in 2016. The combined footprint will exceed one million square feet.

Emmy-winning Production Company Moving Headquarters to Greensboro

7 Cinematics, a production company that has won multiple Emmys, is relocating its headquarters, production and warehouse facilities from LA and Nashville to Greensboro. The company has taken space in the former Triad Stage building in downtown Greensboro and is finalizing construction for its offices, state-of-the-art editing suites and a high-end screening room for clients and artists. The company has also opened its new 6,000 sq ft logistics hub just minutes away from its downtown headquarters.

7 Cinematics produces concert films, live-music broadcasts and livestreams sent around the world. They have worked with artists including Red Hot Chili Peppers and KISS. The move will allow the company to centralize operations and maintain its nearby warehouse/logistics hub filled with production equipment.

Food-Waste Company Invests $1.3 Million, Plans to Create 50 Jobs in Lexington

Divert, a Massachusetts-based food-waste company has purchased 28 acres in Lexington for $1.3 million to build a facility that will employ as many as 50 workers. The company plans to build a food diversion and energy facility on the site.

Divert was founded in 2007 and to date has processed 2.6 billion pounds of wasted food and used its technology to donate over 13.2 million pounds of food — roughly 11 million meals — to those in need. The company operates 13 facilities across the country, capturing wasted food from retailers and other companies, transforming it into carbon-negative renewable energy, thereby preventing it from emitting harmful methane in landfills. According to Divert, North Carolina generates around 2.7 million tons of wasted food in a year while 1.2 million North Carolinians are food insecure.

Drylock Technologies to Create 113 Jobs, Invest $26.9 million in Reidsville

Drylock Technologies, a leading manufacturer of hygiene products, will invest more than $26.9 million to establish its first U.S. baby care production facility and create 113 new jobs in Rockingham County.
Based in Belgium, Drylock Technologies has produced private label absorbent baby, feminine, and adult care hygiene products for more than a decade with nine plants and 3,750 employees globally. The family-owned company develops innovative hygiene products with a focus on sustainability from operating on renewable energy to making the first compostable diaper in the world. The new facility will move U.S. baby care production from Europe to a state-of-the-art 450,000 sq ft manufacturing operation.
Salaries will vary by position with an average annual wage of $46,040, which exceeds the Rockingham County average of $43,892. These new jobs could potentially create an annual payroll impact of more than $5.2 million for the region.
