Site Selection Magazine Ranks North Carolina’s Business Climate No. 1

North Carolina ranks as the nation’s top state business climate in 2021, claiming the lead position for the second year in a row, according to Site Selection magazine.
North Carolina held the No. 2 spot in Site Selection magazine’s annual ranking for five consecutive years before rising to the top spot in 2020 in a tie with Georgia, then unseating the Peach State this year. North Carolina enjoyed a six-year run in the top spot from 2005 through 2010.

Pharmaceutical manufacturer Cambrex plans High Point expansion

Pharmaceutical manufacturer Cambrex Corp. said Friday it will create 78 new jobs in High Point as part of a $30 million manufacturing expansion.

Cambrex focuses on the small molecule sector that provides drug substance, drug product and analytical services across the entire drug lifecycle.

With 40 years’ experience, Cambrex serves clients in North America and Europe by providing full-service research, development and commercial manufacturing.

The expansion will affect its small batch manufacturing capacity with additional production and laboratory space.

Mohawk Industries Expanding in Davidson County

Mohawk Industries, a manufacturer of flooring products and accessories, will create 87 new jobs and invest $87 million to expand its laminate manufacturing facility in Thomasville. Mohawk Industries is a Fortune 500 leading global flooring manufacturer that creates products to enhance residential and commercial spaces around the world. The company has operated in North Carolina for 20 years and will add a new building to the existing state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Thomasville to increase its capacity for laminate flooring production. This expansion will bring Mohawk’s total workforce in North Carolina to almost 1,000 over the next three years. The average annual salary for all new positions at the facility is $44,930.

Woodgrain Inc. Saves 80 Jobs in Surry County

Woodgrain Inc., has acquired the assets of former mill operations owned by Independence Lumber Inc. of Elkin, saving 80 jobs with plans to create an additional 10 as it ramps up ongoing production. The company plans to invest an additional $1 million in new machinery and equipment over the next two years. Woodgrain Inc. makes wood moldings, doors and windows. The company operates two other North Carolina mills in Lenoir and Cherryville.
“We are excited to join the Surry County community and positively impact the local economy, while expanding our North Carolina operations,” said Woodgrain Eastern Region Millwork Manager Robb Hitch. “We pride ourselves in being vertically integrated, and this acquisition will allow us to supply lumber to our millwork location in nearby Lenoir to further allow us to provide the best possible service and product in a highly efficient manner.”

Precision Textiles to locate production facility in Troy

Precision Textiles, a global supplier of coated fabrics, nonwovens and laminates, will locate a manufacturing facility in Troy to better serve its customer base in the mattress industry. The Totowa, New Jersey-based company will employ 100 at the plant in Montgomery County and also operates a warehouse in Archdale.

“This new factory will enable us to better meet the needs of our customers throughout the nation and logistically helps us reduce transit time to those located across the Southeast,” said Precision Textiles CEO Scott Tesser, “It will also give us more capacity to better serve both existing and new customers. “The plant previously had a nice history in textiles manufacturing, so it provided us with a head start in terms of equipment and experienced employees.”
