John Deere to Expand in Kernersville; Invest $70 Million, Add 150 New Jobs

John Deere, a manufacturer of heavy equipment and machinery, will invest about $70 million to build a new 380,000-square-foot factory in Kernersville, an expansion of its John Deere Kernersville campus. The factory will produce small, 6 to 10 metric ton, excavators and is expected to add about 150 new jobs. Currently, about 600 salaried and production employees work at the Kernersville campus. Construction of the new Deere factory is expected to begin in late 2024.

“Kernersville has been an ideal location for John Deere for more than 35 years,” says Steve Brewer, General Manager, John Deere Kernersville. “We are excited to further invest in our future generation excavator portfolio and grow our engaged team.”

Walmart Adding 600,000 SF, Creating 450 Jobs at Mebane Distribution Center

Walmart plans to build a second distribution center in Mebane, NC and create 450 jobs. The facility will be 599,006 sq ft and will be built in front of, to the west and right of, the existing Walmart distribution center, which is 460,000 sq ft.

The new facility will be a distribution center for dry goods. Walmart is expected to break ground in June 2024. The Mebane Distribution Center opened in 2016. The combined footprint will exceed one million square feet.

Emmy-winning Production Company Moving Headquarters to Greensboro

7 Cinematics, a production company that has won multiple Emmys, is relocating its headquarters, production and warehouse facilities from LA and Nashville to Greensboro. The company has taken space in the former Triad Stage building in downtown Greensboro and is finalizing construction for its offices, state-of-the-art editing suites and a high-end screening room for clients and artists. The company has also opened its new 6,000 sq ft logistics hub just minutes away from its downtown headquarters.

7 Cinematics produces concert films, live-music broadcasts and livestreams sent around the world. They have worked with artists including Red Hot Chili Peppers and KISS. The move will allow the company to centralize operations and maintain its nearby warehouse/logistics hub filled with production equipment.

Innovative Construction Group Plans to Invest $39.8 Million, Create 157 Jobs in Chatham County

Innovative Construction Group, LLC, an off-site construction services company serving developers, general contractors, and professional builders, plans to establish a new manufacturing facility in Chatham County and the Town of Siler City. The company plans to make a capital investment of approximately $39.8 million which will create as many as 157 jobs over the next five years.

Innovative Construction Group (ICG) serves building professionals focused on single-family, multi-family, and commercial construction projects. The company provides design services, manufactures wall panels, roof trusses and floor systems, and offers on-site installation to provide a full frame shell construction process. The company’s new facility in Siler City will add to the company’s current manufacturing capacity. It will include opportunities for production and woodworking personnel as well as for logistics and maintenance roles.

Although wages will vary depending on the position, the average salary for the new positions in Chatham County will be $52,949. The current average wage in Chatham County is $50,302. These new jobs could create an annual payroll impact of more than $8.3 million for the region when the facility reaches full operations in 2029.
