SBA Home Opens First U.S. Factory in Mocksville; Invests $70 Million, Creates 250 Jobs

Lithuanian furniture manufacturer SBA Home has officially opened its first U.S. factory in Mocksville, marking a historic investment exceeding $70 million, the largest Lithuanian business investment in the United States to date. The new facility is expected to create 250 highly skilled jobs while further strengthening economic ties between Lithuania and the U.S. and reinforcing the NC Carolina Core’s status as a hub for advanced manufacturing.

The launch represents a significant milestone for SBA Group, one of the largest furniture manufacturing groups in the Baltics and a partner of IKEA for more than 30 years. While the factory is currently operating one shift, recruitment for a second shift is already underway to increase production volumes for the U.S. market.

Altec to Expand in Mount Airy; Create 100 Jobs

Altec will make a significant investment to strengthen its existing operations, result in the creation of 100 new jobs and reinforce Mount Airy’s role as a competitive manufacturing hub.

The project will begin with construction of a new maintenance facility, allowing maintenance staff to relocate from an existing wing of the current building to a new structure adjacent to Altec Way. Once vacated, that portion of the facility will be retooled into additional assembly space, increasing production output and enabling the hiring of more than 100 new associates.

In addition to the new maintenance facility, an addition will be completed in an existing portion of the plant to further expand production capacity. The project will also include utility improvements and facility upgrades to support long-term operational efficiency and growth.

Altec Industries has operated in Mount Airy since its purchase of the facility from Pike Electric in March 2016. Since that time, the company has steadily grown both production capacity and staffing levels, establishing the Mount Airy facility as a key assembly plant within Altec’s national manufacturing network.

CorestemChemon Selects Winston-Salem

2/10/26

CorestemChemon, a biopharmaceutical company headquartered in South Korea, has selected Winston-Salem as the location for its U.S. base of operations.

In South Korea, the company has successfully completed clinical trials for Neuronata-R, a stem cell therapy for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), making it one of only a small number of stem cell therapies approved for use globally. From its U.S. base in Winston-Salem, CorestemChemon plans to advance its therapies through U.S. regulatory pathways while building research, clinical and business partnerships.

“Establishing our U.S. operations in Winston-Salem represents an important milestone in CorestemChemon’s global strategy,” said Seung Beom Yang, director of CorestemChemon. “The opportunity to work within the RegenMed Engine and alongside the Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine (WFIRM), the world’s leading translational regenerative medicine institution, provides a strong foundation for expanding our therapies into the U.S. market and increasing our impact for patients worldwide.”

Greensboro Science Center Expanding

A new café, retail and rental complex coming to the Greensboro Science Center will elevate the guest experience.

Constructed as part of Expedition Rainforest: The Greensboro Biodome and Aquatic Rehabilitation and Conservation Center, the upper zoo plaza will be reimagined into a vibrant new hub featuring a brand-new café, enhanced retail offerings and rental spaces.

The new complex will also provide improved amenities for members and guests while serving as a “welcoming gateway to experiences across the campus.”

“The opening of the Biodome-ARCC project will bring a 4-in-1 science campus to Greensboro. Where else will both citizens and travellers alike be able to experience a rainforest biodome, aquarium, zoological park, and science museum all in one location? With visitorship expected to rise to over 750,000 annual guests, designing a much larger food, retail, and rental facility turned from a nicety to an absolute necessity,” said CEO Glenn Dobrogosz.

Davidson County Moving Forward with Sports Complex

What is currently hundreds of acres of land will soon be home to the $65 million Davidson County Sports Complex.

Davidson County Parks and Recreation Director Thomas Marshburn gave us a sneak peek of where the project will be built, directly behind Southmont Elementary School off NC 8 and Owens Road.

“We’re shooting to open the aquatic center Memorial Day 2027. It’s a pretty quick turnaround. You’ll see this dirt get turned around pretty quick. We’ll have that open by Memorial Day and then all the other athletic fields will be complete soon after that as well,” Marshburn said.

Assistant County Manager Jason Martin provided us images of the conceptual plan. Once the project is built,  Martin says it’s projected to bring in $3 million a year in revenue, then an additional $1.7 million from sponsorships. The project will be paid for with the money the County been waiting to use from the American Rescue Plan Act.
